Shimla: The weather office has issued a serious warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms across Himachal Pradesh. A fresh weather system is moving over the mountains, bringing an abrupt end to the recent hot summer days.

Which Areas are Affected?

The Meteorological Centre has divided the warnings into two levels based on how bad the weather might get:

. Orange Alert (Be Prepared for Heavy Storms)

An Orange Alert means you need to be prepared for bad weather. This has been issued for the following popular hilly districts:

  • Shimla

  • Mandi

  • Kullu

  • Kangra

  • Sirmaur

These areas are expected to see heavy rainfall, lightning, very strong winds, and sudden hailstorms.

2. Yellow Alert (Stay Aware)

A Yellow Alert means you should keep a close watch on local weather changes. This has been issued for:

  • Solan

  • Una

  • Bilaspur

  • Hamirpur

  • Chamba

These districts will see light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

Safety Advice for Public

Because traveling in the mountains during heavy storms can be dangerous, authorities have shared some basic safety steps:

  • Avoid Rivers and Streams: Rain can cause water levels to rise very fast, turning small streams into dangerous currents.

  • Watch Out for Landslides: Heavy rain makes hill slopes loose, which can cause stones and mud to fall onto roads.

  • Stay Indoors During Lightning: If you hear thunder or see lightning, stay inside a safe building or vehicle. Do not stand under tall trees or near weak structures.

  • Check Road Updates: If you are a traveler planning to visit hill stations, check local police or traffic updates before starting your journey.
